A new whitepaper from the Digital Infrastructure for Future-proof Mobility (DITM) project underlines the crucial role of digital infrastructure in enabling the mobility systems of tomorrow. While innovation often focuses on smarter vehicles and new technologies, the report argues that real progress depends on seamless cooperation between vehicles, infrastructure, energy networks and data platforms.

Over the past four years, DITM has brought together industry partners, knowledge institutes and public authorities to develop and validate the digital foundations needed for connected, automated and electrified mobility. The project focused on Key Enabling Technologies that allow vehicles, infrastructure, energy systems and data platforms to securely exchange information and work together as an integrated ecosystem.

Through a series of practical use cases, DITM demonstrated how these technologies can be applied in real-world scenarios. The project explored areas including automated vehicle operations, HD mapping, trusted data sharing, smart charging and solutions to address grid congestion. The results show how digital infrastructure can transform individual innovations into scalable, integrated mobility solutions.

The newly published whitepaper, From Mobility to System: Why Digital Infrastructure is the Real Breakthrough, brings together the project's vision, key findings and lessons learned. The publication is divided into two complementary themes: Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM), and Energy in Mobility, including grid-aware charging infrastructure.

According to the report, the technological building blocks for future mobility are already in place. The next challenge is scaling successful pilot projects into widespread deployment. Achieving this will require continued efforts in areas such as validation, interoperability, cybersecurity, standardisation, governance and investment.

The DITM whitepaper provides valuable insights for policymakers, industry leaders and mobility stakeholders looking to accelerate the transition towards a connected, sustainable and future-proof mobility system.
