Deep Dives - Digitalization

Session 1.1: Software Defined Vehicles
Highlight:
Software is transforming the automotive industry as we know it. While in the past the driver’s experience of a car was primarily defined by hardware, software is now taking a much more important role. This evolution is not only having an impact on the development and operation of vehicles, but also makes agile business models and strategic partnerships with tech firms a must. But how can we ensure that SDVs are safe and secure, and which tools can help in making secured SDVs possible? In this session we will address these and more questions around SDVs.
Confirmed Speakers:
- Rolland Dudemaine (TrustInSoft)
- Remi van Veen (Solid Sands)
- Andrei Terechko (NXP)

Session 1.2: Harmony in Motion: Navigating Safe Coexistence Between Humans & Autonomous Agents
Highlight:
Is it possible and safe for humans and autonomous agents (robots, drones, cars, etc.) to coexist in the same environment, and are we ready for this? Ultimately for this to become a reality it is necessary that the autonomous agents obtain situational awareness and improve their ability to actively perceive risks coming from unpredictable and random human behavior. But also, how do we make the behavior of autonomous vehicles predictable for humans, to avoid conflict and dangerous situations for other traffic participants? In this break out session we will discover what is necessary for humas and autonomous agents to coexist from the perspective of Behavioral Psychology, Engineering, Robotics and AI.
Confirmed Speakers:
- Sadegh Soudjani (Max Planck Institute for Software Systems via Symaware project)
- Jurgis Karpus (Ludwig Maximilians-Universiteit (München))
- Marieke Martens (TU/e via ACT project)

Session 1.3: Accelerating Secure Autonomous Vehicles: Bridging Simulation and Real-World Testing for Safe and Scalable Development
Highlight:
For self-driving vehicles to reach a human-level error rate, billions of miles have to be driven meaning hundreds of years of physical testing. We simply do not have time for this. As our mobility system is preparing for vehicles with higher levels of automation, developers are turning to simulation environments as a means to accelerate the development of secure autonomous vehicles in a safe, efficient and feasible way. Although virtual scenarios come with constraints, they stand out as one of the most effective methods for training self-driving algorithms to prioritize safety in actual traffic conditions. In this session we will dive into the benefits of simulation environments, the present and future of validation labs, and the link between digital and physical testing.

- Gilles Gallee (Ansys)
- Jeroen Ploeg (Siemens)
- Frank Berndsen (HAN via CORDS-VTS Project)

Session 2.1: The Future of Public Transport: Embracing Automation
Highlight:
With the need for safe, sustainable and feasible commute, autonomous Public Transport is the answer not only in urban environments but also in rural areas. But what are the thoughts from the OEM’s, Software companies, Public Transport Operators and the Government? Is this actually possible or are we just living in a dream? In this break out we will have a deep dive on what is our future when it comes to automation in Public Transport.

Session 2.2: AI in the Automotive Sector – lessons learned from innovative industries
Highlight:
AI is already shaping the automotive industry, but how can it drive innovation and speed up autonomous vehicle deployment? This session explores three key aspects: understanding legal rules, mapping the environment, and sensing the surroundings. We'll cover how natural language understanding (NLU) tools make legal texts machine-readable, the future of legal-machine translation, the role of radars in automotive tech and their cross-industry applications, and how AI-powered mapping ensures accurate, real-time navigation for autonomous driving. A must-attend for those building the brains and the eyes of autonomous systems.
Confirmed Speakers:
- Mandy Schiffrin - Chief Product Officer at Nalantis
- Giovanni Giancaspro - Senior Manager Product Marketing - Automated Driving (TomTom)
- Andras Palffy - Co-Founder of PERCIV AI
