Session 1.1: From regulation to reality: Navigating the battery passport mandate

Highlight:

As the automotive industry accelerates toward electrification, battery passports are set to become a critical requirement. But why are they needed, and what is currently being developed to make them a reality?
With regulations mandating battery passports by 2027, this session will also serve as a platform to identify the most pressing challenges from industry and government perspectives. Join us to exchange insights, align on key roadblocks, and discuss how different stakeholders can collaborate to ensure a smooth transition.

Confirmed Speakers:

  • Sjoerd Rongen (TNO)
  • Subhajeet Rath (TNO)
  • Marty Smits (Refurb Battery)

Session 1.2: The roles of hydrogen in decarbonizing the European Mobility System

Highlight:

Hydrogen is key to decarbonizing mobility, especially heavy-duty trucking, impacting the Netherlands' energy future. Technologies such as hydrogen combustion engines, Solid oxide fuel cells and cost-effective hydrogen storage are crucial for widespread adoption. Further development is needed to make hydrogen a viable, affordable energy source.

This session explores building a hydrogen ecosystem for heavy-duty vehicles, uniting key players like DAF Trucks, TNO, Westport Fuel Systems, and Bosal Nederland. We'll discuss the developments of hydrogen combustion engines, a complementary technology to heavy duty EVs, and address the challenges of hydrogen production, storage, and infrastructure.

Confirmed Speakers:

  • Jack Bloem, Business Developer Sustainable ICE, TNO
  • Marc Horsten, Manager External Contacts, DAF Trucks
  • Ted Straten, VP Strategy & New Business, Bosal Nederland
  • Bas ten Broeke, Technical Director Heavy Duty, Westport Fuel Systems

Session 1.3: Heavy Duty Charging Corridor – Overcoming Barriers to Heavy Duty Electric Truck Adoption

Highlight:

The panel will address the urgent need for the industry to reduce CO2 emissions, highlighting the challenges faced by companies like DAF, which are penalized for not meeting emission targets despite the high costs and limited incentives for adopting electric trucks. The session will also focus on the significant issue of inadequate charging infrastructure for heavy-duty vehicles, which is a major barrier to the widespread adoption of electric trucks. The discussion will cover grid congestion, a critical factor affecting the deployment of charging stations.

Confirmed Speakers:

  • Anna Paar (Brainport Development)
  • Jesse de Vries (Stantec)
  • Jasper Konings (Heliox)
  • Tom Colpeart (Deutz)

Session 2.1: Gone with the wind: setting up the priorities for Europe’s role in the Battery-Ecosystem in the very unpredictable market of Li-ion batteries.

Highlight:

Facing with the rapid shifts in battery industry trends and price volatility, the EU automotive sector should urgently align its priorities to ensure resilience to a storm of changes by balancing price competitiveness and geopolitical independence. This session will explore whether Europe should follow market trends versus setting long-term priorities, even at the cost of higher prices or delays. Key discussion points include the trade-off between price and independence, the strategic focus on automotive vs. emerging battery markets, and the balance between innovation and pragmatism in next-generation battery development.

Confirmed Speakers:

  • Sophie Dik (CarbonX)
  • Paul Luczykowski (Omron)
  • Jeroen van Hapert (Exide (MG Customized Energy Systems))
  • Peter Janssen (VDL ETS)

Session 2.2: Zero Emission Production Technologies - How the automotive industry is paving the way to net zero

Highlight:

Automotive manufacturing is responsible for almost 10% of global industrial CO2 emissions. Facing pressure from net-zero initiatives, automakers significantly must reduce the environmental impact of their production processes. They’re the ones that expect to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030, compared to an average projected reduction of 19% across the industry. It’s clear there’s still a lot of work to be done.
Thanks to high implementation levels of sustainability practices and technologies. They will challenge the goals to reduce emissions of their production facilities

Confirmed Speakers:

  • Basjan Berkhout (Tata Steel)
  • Name to be confirmed (Hyster-yale Materials Handling)

Session 2.3: Heavy duty charging despite limited grid capacity -  Challenges and solutions developed by the Charging Energy Hubs project.

Highlight:

As electric trucks hit the road, the demand for high-power charging is skyrocketing—but what happens when the grid can’t keep up? The Charging Energy Hubs project is exploring smart solutions to balance charging needs without overloading the system. In this breakout session, we’ll look at key innovations, see how they work in real-world scenarios, and hear perspectives from industry stakeholders on managing electrification and charging challenges.

Confirmed Speakers:

  • Sander Drissen - Scholt Energy
  •  Roland Kahmann - Recoy
